Clarivate anuncia la lista de investigadores altamente citados de 2025

Clarivate Plc, proveedor líder mundial de inteligencia transformadora, ha publicado hoy la lista de investigadores altamente citados de 2025. Esta lista anual reconoce a los investigadores cuyas contribuciones han demostrado una influencia amplia y significativa en sus campos.

Los analistas del Instituto de Información Científica (ISI) de Clarivate han reconocido a 6,868 personas con 7,131 premios* de más de 1,300 instituciones de 60 países y regiones. El riguroso proceso de evaluación y selección se basa en datos de la Web of Science Core Collection y utiliza métricas cuantitativas y análisis cualitativos para identificar a las personas cuyo trabajo ha tenido una influencia genuina y global en sus campos.

La lista ofrece información valiosa sobre el panorama mundial de los mejores talentos en investigación e identifica tendencias en distintos países, regiones e instituciones. Estados Unidos es el líder mundial, mientras que China continental y el Reino Unido mantienen sus respectivas posiciones segunda y tercera en la lista.

A medida que los entornos de investigación se vuelven más complejos, nos comprometemos a mantener los más altos estándares de integridad en la investigación, continuando con el fortalecimiento de los cimientos de nuestro programa Investigadores Altamente Citados». 

Una instantánea del panorama mundial de la investigación en 2025 muestra lo siguiente:

• Estados Unidos lidera a nivel mundial con 2,670 premios, lo que representa el 37 % del total mundial, un modesto aumento con respecto al año pasado que revierte la tendencia a la baja anterior.

• Uno de cada cinco premios se otorga a investigadores con sede en China continental. Ocupa el segundo lugar con 1,406 premios (20 %), lo que muestra un crecimiento en números absolutos, pero una ligera disminución en la cuota mundial. Entre todas las instituciones del mundo, la Academia China de Ciencias (CAS) es la primera con 258 premios.

• El Reino Unido ocupa el tercer lugar con 570 premios (8 %), seguido de Alemania (363), Australia (312) y Canadá (227).

• Suiza vuelve a situarse entre los diez primeros, mientras que la RAE de Hong Kong sigue aumentando su número de premios, pasando de 134 en 2024 a 145 este año, lo que supone una cuota del 2 % del total mundial.

• Los investigadores más citados de este año trabajan en 60 países y regiones, pero el 86 % de los premios se concentran en sólo 10 de ellos, y el 75 % en los cinco primeros. Esto pone de relieve una notable concentración de los mejores talentos mundiales en materia de investigación.

• Entre los 3,562 premios a investigadores* en los 21 campos de los Indicadores Científicos Esenciales (ESI), 227 personas aparecen en dos o más campos ESI y 31 aparecen en tres o más campos. Este año, hay 3,569 galardonados con premios en varios campos.

En una época en la que la credibilidad de la literatura científica se enfrenta a un escrutinio cada vez mayor, el programa Investigadores Altamente Citados ha evolucionado continuamente para integrar controles rigurosos. En 2025, el programa añadió nuevas capas de escrutinio, garantizando que la lista satisfaga las necesidades de la comunidad al honrar los logros individuales por su amplia y significativa influencia, al tiempo que refuerza los valores que sustentan una investigación significativa y responsable.

Clarivate Announces Highly Cited Researchers 2025 List

Clarivate Plc, a leading global provider of transformative intelligence, today released the Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list. This annual list recognizes researchers whose contributions have demonstrated broad and significant influence in their fields.

Analysts from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) at Clarivate recognized 6,868 individuals with 7,131 awards* from more than 1,300 institutions in 60 countries and regions. The rigorous evaluation and selection process draws on data from the Web of Science Core Collection, and uses quantitative metrics and qualitative analysis to identify individuals whose work has had a genuine, global influence on their fields. 

The list offers valuable insights into the global landscape of top research talent and identifies trends across countries, regions and institutions. The United States is the world leader, while Mainland China and the United Kingdom maintain their respective second and third positions on the list.

A snapshot of the global research landscape in 2025 shows:

• The U.S. leads globally with 2,670 awards, making up 37% of the global total—a modest increase from last year that reverses a previous downward trend.

• One in five awards is designated to researchers based in Mainland China. It holds second place with 1,406 awards (20%), showing growth in absolute numbers but a slight decrease in world share. Among all institutions globally, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the top institution with 258 awards.

• The U.K. ranks third with 570 awards (8%), followed by Germany (363), Australia(312), and Canada (227).

• Switzerland returns to the top 10, while Hong Kong SAR continues to grow its number of awards, rising from 134 in 2024 to 145 this year, claiming a 2% share of the global total.

• This year’s Highly Cited Researchers work in 60 countries and regions, yet 86% of awards are concentrated in just 10 of them − and 75% in the first five. This highlights a remarkable concentration of top global research talent.

• Among the 3,562 researcher awards* in the 21 Essential Science Indicators (ESI) fields, 227 individuals appear in two or more ESI fields and 31 appear in three or more fields. This year, there are 3,569 recipients of cross-field awards.

In an era when the credibility of scientific literature faces growing scrutiny, the Highly Cited Researchers program has continuously evolved to integrate robust checks. In 2025, the program added additional layers of scrutiny, ensuring that the list meets the needs of the community by honoring individual achievement for broad and significant influence while reinforcing the values that underpin meaningful and responsible research.
